400 × 267Now that the Telluride has been available in the Kansas City market,

people are curious to see how it stacks up against competitor vehicles, such as the Highlander.

The 2020 Kia Telluride is a mid-size SUV that’s absolutely packed with features. It has the most interior room in its class, and up to seating for 8. The handling and power are perfectly tuned, and there are cool features like the heads-up display and forward-collision assist.

The Toyota Highlander is well known; however, it lacks the technology and sleek styling that Kia packed in to the 2020 Telluride.

How does the Telluride preform compared to the Highlander?

The engines on the Telluride and Highlander are comparable in size and output with the Telluride offering a 3.8L 291 HP motor paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and 4-wheel-drive as standard (all-wheel-drive optional).

The Highlander offers a 3.5L 280 HP motor with a standard 6-speed automatic transmission.

The major difference between the models is in towing capacity where the Telluride boasts a 5,000-lbs. towing capacity with the Highlander LE falling short at just 1,500 lbs.

The Telluride also offers a self-leveling suspension that enhances the handling of the vehicle. That is not an option for Highlander drivers.

Ride-wise, the reviews on both vehicles are very similar with both offering adequate power, comparable road-handling and smooth rides, but the better suspension and towing of the 2020 Kia Telluride for sale in Olathe cannot be overlooked, especially considering the Kansas City, Lee’s Summit, Shawnee, Lawrence, and Overland Park roads.

What about Safety? Is the Kia Telluride safer than the Highlander?

The 2020 Kia Telluride for sale in Kansas and Missouri has a drowsy driver warning system, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist as standard on even its base models.

When you move up to the higher-level models, the Telluride has some features that Toyota Highlander simply cannot compete with. These features front an upgraded driver information display, a surround-view parking camera system as well as a blind-spot camera system, and a low-level automated highway driving system. Not to mention, two features exclusive to Kia; Safe Exit Assist and Rear Occupant Alert.

Telluride a truly luxurious model that is unrivaled in this class.

Which Has the Better Interior?

Bluetooth, five USB charge ports, an 8-inch touchscreen, a rearview camera, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a six-speaker stereo with satellite radio and USB input are standard on the base model Telluride, while you have to move up in model and pricing levels on the Highlander to get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto features.

On the upper-level models, the Telluride has some unique tricks such as the driver voice amplifier for the rear seats and a quiet mode that kills the speakers to the rear seats.

The upper-level Telluride models also give you a 10-speaker Harman Kardon surround-sound system, ambient lighting, and driver-seat memory functions. Even on the higher trim levels, the Highlander does not offer these features.

At the end of the day, when you consider all the factors the new offering from Kia, the Telluride is superior value compared to the Highlander, offering comparable performance, quality, and ride with a lot more bang for your buck.
